Guest Rules & Instructions

Welcome to Oak Hollow Cabins.

Oak Hollow is a quiet rural property near Boaz, Alabama, designed for simple reset stays. Our reset cabins are intentionally modest, off-grid, and quiet. They are places to step away, slow down, read, write, rest, walk, think, sit by a fire, and live for a short time with less noise and fewer conveniences.

These Guest Rules & Instructions apply to every Oak Hollow reset stay unless the signed Guest Agreement says otherwise. The Guest Agreement identifies the assigned cabin, stay dates, payment terms, and any approved special arrangements.

Please read this document carefully. These rules and instructions are part of what makes Oak Hollow workable, safe, clean, and peaceful for every guest.

Welcome to Oak Hollow

Oak Hollow is not a conventional resort or ordinary vacation-rental property.

It is a quiet place with simple reset cabins, walking access, wooded surroundings, and practical support from the Hub.

Please help preserve the quiet character of the property.

Use good judgment. Move slowly. Leave things clean. Ask questions if you are unsure how something works.

What Oak Hollow Is / Is Not

Oak Hollow is:

  • a quiet reset-cabin property;
  • a place for solitude, simplicity, and rest;
  • designed for reading, writing, thinking, walking, and slowing down;
  • supported by the nearby Hub;
  • intentionally simpler than ordinary lodging.

Oak Hollow is not:

  • a party property;
  • a resort;
  • a couple’s getaway, unless a two-cabin arrangement is approved in the Guest Agreement;
  • a family rental;
  • a hunting camp;
  • a drive-up vacation-cabin property;
  • a fully furnished tiny-house village;
  • long-term housing;
  • a place for loud music, visitors, gatherings, or events.

Each reset cabin is intentionally simple. Unless the Guest Agreement says otherwise, guests should expect no built-in electricity, no pressurized running water, no indoor bathroom, no shower inside the cabin, no refrigerator inside the cabin, no Wi-Fi, and no television.

One Guest / No Visitors

Each Oak Hollow reset cabin is for one registered guest only unless the Guest Agreement approves a different arrangement.

No overnight guests are allowed.

No visitors, parties, gatherings, or events are allowed unless approved in the Guest Agreement or later approved by Oak Hollow Cabins in writing.

Please do not invite friends, family members, or other people onto the property without permission.

This rule protects the quiet purpose of Oak Hollow and the privacy of the property.

If a two-cabin arrangement is approved, each guest must be registered, each guest must have an assigned cabin, and each guest must follow these Guest Rules & Instructions.

Parking and Walking Access

Guests park only in the designated parking area.

Vehicles are not allowed at the cabins, in the Meadow, or on cabin paths unless specifically approved by Oak Hollow Cabins.

Guests should expect walking access to the cabins. A pull-cart may be available for carrying belongings, but guests should be prepared to walk and carry or cart their own supplies.

Please stay on established paths when possible.

At night, use a flashlight, headlamp, or other reliable light. Solar path lights may help mark the way, but they should not be your only source of light.

Wear shoes suitable for walking outdoors.

Do not drive across the Meadow, down cabin paths, or to a cabin unless Oak Hollow Cabins gives specific permission.

The Hub

The Hub is the on-grid support building near the parking area.

Because the reset cabins are off-grid and intentionally simple, the Hub provides practical support that allows the cabins to remain quiet and uncluttered.

Hub access may include:

  • bathroom;
  • shower;
  • water;
  • charging;
  • kitchen / food-prep space;
  • refrigerator;
  • washer and dryer;
  • indoor sitting or writing space;
  • library / reading room;
  • shelter during bad weather.

Please use the Hub respectfully.

Clean up after yourself. Do not leave food, dishes, trash, towels, or personal items in the Hub unless Oak Hollow Cabins has approved a specific place for them.

Turn off lights, appliances, and water when finished.

Do not enter private, closed, or restricted areas.

Hub access is support for your reset stay. It is not intended to turn the cabin into a conventional full-service rental.

Composting Toilets

Each reset cabin uses an assigned composting-toilet arrangement.

Composting toilets require careful use. Use the composting toilet only as described in this section.

The composting toilet is for toilet use only.

Do not put any of the following in a composting toilet:

  • food scraps;
  • coffee grounds;
  • trash;
  • wipes, including “flushable” wipes;
  • paper towels;
  • feminine products;
  • grease;
  • dishwater;
  • chemicals;
  • plastic;
  • bottles, cans, wrappers, or packaging.

Use only the toilet paper and cover material provided or approved by Oak Hollow Cabins.

After use, add the appropriate cover material as shown by Oak Hollow Cabins.

Keep the toilet area clean.

Keep the toilet lid and structure closed when not in use.

Do not empty, move, alter, or disassemble any part of the composting-toilet system unless Oak Hollow Cabins specifically asks you to do so.

If something is not working properly, notify Oak Hollow Cabins as soon as possible.

Water and Sink Bucket

The reset cabins do not have pressurized running water unless the Guest Agreement says otherwise.

Water is available from the Watering Place and/or the Hub.

If your cabin has a small sink, the sink may drain into a 5-gallon bucket under the counter.

Use water sparingly.

Do not pour food scraps, grease, coffee grounds, chemicals, trash, or heavy dishwater into the sink.

Cabin sinks are for light use only, such as handwashing, brushing teeth, or small simple tasks. They are not intended for heavy dishwashing, cooking cleanup, or food disposal.

If your cabin sink drains into a bucket:

  • check the bucket daily;
  • do not allow the bucket to overflow;
  • notify Oak Hollow Cabins if the bucket is getting full;
  • do not empty the bucket anywhere on the property unless Oak Hollow Cabins has shown you the approved emptying location.

If you are unsure what to do, stop using the sink and contact Oak Hollow Cabins.

Wood Stove and Fire Ring

Your cabin may include a wood-burning stove/heater, an outdoor fire ring, or both.

Fire is useful, but it must be treated seriously.

Do not use a wood stove or fire ring unless you understand how to do so safely.

Never leave any fire unattended.

Do not burn trash, plastic, cans, treated wood, paper plates, food packaging, cardboard packaging, or anything other than approved firewood or approved fire-starting materials.

Do not move the wood stove, stove pipe, fire ring, ash container, or fire tools.

Do not use candles, oil lamps, incense, or other open flames inside the cabin unless Oak Hollow Cabins specifically approves them.

Outdoor fires may be limited or prohibited during wind, dry weather, burn bans, or other unsafe conditions.

Before leaving the cabin, going to sleep, or leaving the fire area, make sure the stove or fire is safe.

If you are unsure whether a fire is safe, contact Oak Hollow Cabins.

Wood Stove Use

If your cabin has a wood stove, use it carefully.

Keep bedding, clothing, paper, books, bags, towels, furniture, and personal items safely away from the stove.

Do not overload the stove.

Do not burn trash, cardboard, treated lumber, plastic, or food packaging in the stove.

Do not place anything on top of the stove unless Oak Hollow Cabins has approved it.

Do not sleep with the stove door open.

Do not remove hot ashes.

Do not place ashes in a plastic container, paper bag, cardboard box, trash can, or on the ground.

If ashes need attention, contact Oak Hollow Cabins.

Outdoor Fire Ring Use

Use only the designated fire ring.

Do not build fires anywhere else.

Keep fires small and manageable.

Do not leave a fire unattended.

Do not start or continue a fire in high wind, very dry conditions, or when Oak Hollow Cabins has said outdoor fires are not allowed.

Do not move chairs, wood, tools, or fire materials in a way that creates a hazard.

Make sure the fire is out or safely contained before leaving the area.

Trash and Cleanliness

Please keep your cabin, toilet area, the Hub, porch, paths, and outdoor areas clean.

Do not leave trash, food, cans, bottles, wrappers, cigarette butts, or personal items outside.

Food scraps and trash attract insects, wildlife, and animals.

Store food securely.

Use designated trash containers or follow the trash arrangement explained by Oak Hollow Cabins.

Do not leave food in the cabin after check-out.

Report spills, damage, broken items, missing items, or problems as soon as possible.

Pets

Pets are not allowed unless approved in the Guest Agreement or later approved by Oak Hollow Cabins in writing.

If a pet is approved, the guest is responsible for the pet at all times.

Pet responsibilities include:

  • keeping the pet under control;
  • preventing damage;
  • cleaning up all waste;
  • preventing excessive noise;
  • keeping the pet off bedding and furniture unless specifically approved;
  • protecting other people, animals, and property.

Oak Hollow Cabins may revoke pet permission if a pet creates a problem.

Smoking / Noise / Conduct

No smoking or vaping is allowed inside any cabin, composting-toilet structure, or the Hub.

If smoking is approved outdoors, all cigarette butts and smoking materials must be fully extinguished and disposed of properly.

No illegal drugs are allowed on the property.

No loud music, shouting, disorderly conduct, heavy drinking, parties, or unsafe behavior.

Quiet is part of the purpose of Oak Hollow. Please respect the property, the woods, nearby buildings, animals, neighbors, and any other guests.

Oak Hollow Cabins may end a stay if a guest creates an unsafe condition, violates these rules, refuses reasonable safety instructions, or disturbs the property.

  • shoes suitable for walking outdoors;
