🌿Where the Trail Ends and Quiet Begins

Beyond the pond and through the hardwoods lies South Hollow, the farthest reach of Oak Hollow’s seventy acres. There are no cabins here—no lights, no power, no people in sight. Only forest, firelight, and time.

The trail slips quietly into a hush of pine and shade, winding southwest from the big green building toward the gorge below. Along the way, you’ll find a handful of hidden campsites—each with its own story, atmosphere, and rhythm of stillness.

You bring your own tent—or not. Some guests sling a hammock, settle into a bivy sack, or sleep beneath the stars. Whatever you bring, South Hollow offers something you can’t find anywhere else: a place to disappear into quiet and feel the pulse of the earth again.

The trail leads you through five distinct sites, each with its own character — from open moonlight to the whisper of pines.

🌙 The Experience

Camping in South Hollow is about presence, not comfort. You’ll feel the shift the moment you leave the Outpost behind. The air cools, the sounds sharpen, and every step pulls you deeper into quiet.

There’s no schedule here—only rhythm. You wake with the sun, gather kindling, and make your coffee over a flame. Evenings stretch long and wordless under the soft weight of the stars.

It’s not for everyone—but for those who come, it’s unforgettable.

🏕️ Campsites Overview

South Hollow includes one near-site close to the Outpost and five hike-in campsites deeper in the woods. Each site is reachable only on foot and spaced widely apart for privacy, presence, and solitude.

🪶 Near-Site: The Edge of Quiet

Just a hundred paces south of the Outpost, where the land flattens before it slips toward the gorge, you’ll find a soft clearing shaded by maple and oak. This is The Edge of Quiet—a place between worlds. Close enough to feel the hum of the Outpost, yet far enough to hear only the wind through the trees.

The ground here is gently sloped and open—once home to an old treehouse that time and forest reclaimed. From its edge, you can look down into the gorge and catch the shimmer of afternoon light on distant leaves.

It’s a perfect site for those who want solitude without the long hike in. Set your tent beneath the canopy, hang a hammock, and watch the day fade toward stillness. As the forest breathes around you, you’ll realize you don’t have to go far to find quiet—just far enough.

Closest site to the Outpost — ideal for short stays or first-time primitive campers.

🏕️ Hike-In Campsites

A handful of secluded sites beyond the Outpost, reachable only by foot, each with its own story and rhythm of stillness.

Moonstruck

The first clearing you’ll find, where light filters through in soft golds and silvers. Moonstruck catches both sunrise and moonlight, offering a peaceful, open space surrounded by hardwoods. Perfect for reflection beneath a wide, quiet sky.

Echo Hollow

A short walk beyond Moonstruck, the trail bends toward the gorge. The air cools, and the sounds deepen—wind, water, and distant echoes. Echo Hollow is a place to listen, to pause, and to let the forest speak for itself. Ideal for solitude and meditation.

Brave Rock

Down the steep side of the gorge, a great moss-covered stone juts into the open. From here, you can hear the creek whispering below. For the adventurous, it’s both a lookout and a test of courage. Best for experienced campers seeking a raw, unforgettable spot.

Whispering Pines

Farther down the slope, tall pines sway softly in the wind. The forest floor is thick with needles, and every step feels muted and calm. A peaceful site for restful overnight stays.

Stillwater Bend

At the bottom of the trail, the creek slows and curves through a shaded hollow. The air is cool, the stones smooth, and time seems to pause. A perfect place to rest, breathe, and return to center.

🕯 The Way Back

The walk back to the trailhead feels lighter—each site leaving its own quiet echo. Together, these places form the soul of South Hollow: not just land, but presence itself.

Every turn in South Hollow tells a story, and every site holds its own kind of quiet. The deeper you walk, the softer the world becomes—until even the sound of your breath feels like part of the forest. To camp here is not to escape life, but to return to it.

🪵What We Provide

Each South Hollow campsite includes a fire ring, a flat tent area, and the kind of quiet you can’t buy.

A half rick of split hardwood is provided for each booking and stacked near the Trailhead. Guests may carry what they need to their site or use the smaller campfire bundle add-on for convenience.

For the more remote sites—Brave Rock and Stillwater Bend—firewood delivery isn’t possible. Campers at these sites are welcome to gather small, fallen branches or twigs nearby to supplement their bundle.

Potable water is available for refill at The Watering Place, and optional parking is provided at The Outpost.

That’s it. Everything else is between you and the forest.

🔧Optional Add-Ons

Pre-Laid Campfire Bundle — $15
We’ll prepare your first fire before you arrive. A small bundle of split hardwood and kindling will be laid in your fire ring, ready to strike. Recommended for late arrivals or first-time primitive campers.

Extra Half-Rick of Firewood — $25
Available for pickup near the Trailhead at The Woodlot. Campers can carry what they need or leave extra wood there for future use. (Delivery is not available for Brave Rock or Stillwater Bend.)

Guided Orientation Walk — 30 minutes | $20
Take a short, unhurried walk from The Outpost to the Edge of Quiet and on deeper into South Hollow. We’ll cover trail routes, site locations, and simple leave-no-trace practices before you set out on your own.

🔥Firewood & Campfire Policy

Fire belongs at the heart of South Hollow—but we keep it simple, safe, and sustainable. Guests may carry what they need to their site or choose the pre-laid campfire bundle add-on for convenience.

Because several sites are remote and difficult to reach, campers are also welcome to gather small, downed wood found naturally along the trail or around their campsite. Bring a hand saw or bow saw if you wish—cutting small fallen limbs is part of the primitive experience.

Please follow these simple guidelines:

  • Collect only loose, fallen branches or twigs.
  • Do not cut standing trees, even if they appear dead.
  • Avoid removing large limbs or wood embedded in the soil.
  • Keep fires small and fully contained within the designated ring.
  • Extinguish completely before leaving or sleeping—ashes should be cool to the touch.
  • Never burn trash or plastics.

At South Hollow, the fire is less about comfort and more about connection—just enough light to see your breath and remember what warmth really is.

🚶Access & Arrival

Guests park at the Outpost and hike in approximately 400–800 yards, depending on site location. Paths are natural and may be uneven or narrow in places — please pack accordingly.

The Outpost includes a welcome board, map, and emergency contact information. Once you pass the pond, you’re officially off-grid.

🌌 Philosophy of the Hollow

“Primitive doesn’t mean lacking — it means enough.”

South Hollow isn’t about what’s missing. It’s about what remains when everything unnecessary falls away. Here, the silence feels alive. The fire becomes your company. And somewhere in the middle of the night, you’ll realize — this is what stillness actually sounds like.
